Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between Weld-On 3 and 4 clear, water-thin acrylic solvent cements?
A: Weld-On 3 is non-flammable and very fast setting. Weld-On 4 is flammable and moderately fast setting. Both are water thin clear solvent cement for bonding acrylics. They also bond styrene, butyrate, PETG, and polycarbonate to themselves. They will not bond to cross-linked acrylics.
Q: What is the difference between Weld-On 55 and 58 clear, two-component polyurethane adhesives?
A: Weld-On 55 is slow setting and Weld-On 58 is fast setting. Both are VOC-free, two component, urethane-based clear adhesives for bonding polycarbonate, butyrate, ABS, and PETG to themselves and each other. They have excellent UV light resistance.
Q: What is the difference between Weld-On 10 and 45 two-component structural adhesives?
A: Weld-On 10 is a 100:13 manual mix ratio, white structural adhesive with a viscosity of 40,000 cps. Weld-On 45 is a fast curing, low VOC, two-component cartridge with a 4:1 mix ratio, tan reactive structural adhesive, which has an elastomer in its formulation and a viscosity of 500,000 cps. Weld-On 45 requires use of dispensing gun and mixing tip. Both #10 and #45 are two-component, high strength, high viscosity structural adhesive for bonding a variety of plastics and metals. For more information, please refer to the product bulletins.
Q: Are Weld-On Assembly Adhesives considered hazardous materials by DOT?
A: Yes. Please refer to product bulletins and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for more details. Weld-On 3 is restricted for sale and for use in the following California counties: Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and Orange. Weld-On 55 and 58 are considered non-hazardous (DOT non-regulated class).
Q: How is Weld-On 16 applied differently than the water-thin products with a dispensing bottle and hypodermic needle?
A: Weld-On 16 is applied using a dispensing bottle with a 14-gauge (wider) needle. Water-thin products such as Weld-On 3, 4, 2007, 2354, and 57, are applied using a dispensing bottle with either a 25-gauge or 21-gauge (narrower) needle.
Q: Are there replacement products for discontinued Weld-On Assembly Adhesives?
A: Users can try Weld-On 3 or 4 as alternative to the discontinued #5. Weld-On 1784 was discontinued and replaced by #4784 which is the low VOC version of the product.
